Shopify theme detector
Enter the address of a Shopify store and see which theme it uses, which version, and whether it comes from the Shopify Theme Store or is custom built. Free and without signing up.
How to read the result
- 1Theme: the name of the base theme, like Dawn, Impulse or Prestige. That's the name to search for in the Theme Store.
- 2Name in the store: merchants often rename their theme copies, like "Dawn – summer sale". Sometimes that tells you what they're working on.
- 3Version: an old version often means the store was heavily customized and no longer takes updates.
- 4Source: "Shopify Theme Store" means you can buy or install the theme yourself. "Custom or modified theme" means an agency built or rebuilt it.
How the theme detector works
Every Shopify store includes a small data object in its home page source with the theme name, base theme and version. Our tool loads the home page once, reads that object and shows it in plain language.
We don't store the address you check or the result. Stores with a custom frontend (headless) don't reveal their theme; for those we only show that it's a Shopify store.
FAQ
Is the Shopify theme detector free?
Yes, no sign-up needed. There's an hourly limit to prevent abuse.
Can I just copy another store's theme?
Theme Store themes you can install yourself: free ones right away, premium ones after buying. You can't copy another store's customizations, copy or images.
Why doesn't the tool find a theme for some stores?
Either it isn't a Shopify store, or it uses a custom frontend (headless). Password-protected or very slow stores sometimes can't be checked either.
What's the best theme for a new store?
The free Dawn theme. It's fast, maintained by Shopify and more than enough for dropshipping. A premium theme only pays off when you really need a specific feature.
